The Library Welcomes Bruce Watson, Author of Freedom Summer, on July 29 at 6:30pm, a Smithsonian Exhibit Program at the Ashby Free Public Library

The Smithsonian exhibit, Voices & Votes runs for 6 weeks at the Ashby Free Public Library, starting July 26, 2025.

This is a non-partisan exploration of democracy over the past 250 years.  The exhibit is accompanied by:

  • Micro exhibit by the Ashby Historical Society
  • Photography exhibit of local photographers

The Exhibit is on display for 6 weeks through September 6, 2025. In that time, there will be special events, including:

  • Tuesday, July 29: The first of many programs, an author discusses his book Freedom Summer — an eye-opening, riveting read as relevant now as it was 60 years ago.
  • Saturday, August 2, 9am-3pm: Voices on the Common — enjoy music spanning 250 years, record your own short memories about voting and democracy.

During the Exhibits run, the library will be open for extended hours on Wednesday evenings so that visitors can come to view the exhibit and then stay for the band concert. Regular Library hours will be:

  • Tuesdays 10-5
  • Wednesdays 10-7
  • Thursdays 1-8
  • Saturdays 10-2

There will be additional extended hours for programs.

Come out and enjoy the exhibit. Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s make this a summer to remember!
